I am not a teacher, so my only experience has been as an observer this semester. For the most part (at the High School level), the teachers use video and DVD's. One class (robotics), they use wireless laptops to program small robots. Other than that, it's pretty elementary stuff....mostly blackboards and 'do nows'.
I did speak to one physics teacher about using more multimedia in his class, and he said he tried, but the bottom line is, he found that a simple blackboard and marker were the most effective form of teaching. He also used some very old demo's like a van de Graf device for static charge and a demo for parallel and series circuits. It looked like stuff I used when I was in HS....a long time ago. Not very impressive, really.
There is many different types of technology that has been integrated in the classrooms that i have observed in like, -over head projectors -smart board (very affective and use full) -projectors -powerpoints -computers -TV, video I as a teacher would also use/ apply this technology to my classroom because it is very important to keep the material updated especially on technology becasue that is what our students are being brought up to use and we wouldn't want to bore them by only writing on the black board because there is so many things that we can do with my list of technology. We as teachers want to do anything possible to motivate and keep the attention of our students and in doing so technology is a great solution.
I have tried to integrate technology into my classes but it is an uphill battle. I am one of the newest teachers in my department and the teachers who have been there for fifteen to twenty years fear change. In fact on my first day one of the teachers told me “not to fix the wheel if it is not broken”. But that concept did not sit well with me because I saw that our students were not getting a whole learning experience. As a result I decided to include technology as a part of my lessons.
I enlisted the input of two other teaches who were open to the idea of change and we have been collaborating on different ways to incorporate technology into our lesson plans. What I have found hard is when I get students who have not been introduced to the technological part of Fashion Design. I usually have to start over and introduce the topic, it is a good way to reinforce the subject to my previous students but I have had to be inventive and creative to keep them interested until the newer students catch up. Depending on the student population it can be tedious at times. Because of this interchanging of the students each term my colleagues are not completely sold on the idea of technology integration especially at the ratio of 3:9 against technology. I have seen first hand the impact of using technology with my students. It not only introduces them to a world they could not visit but also has a major impact on their learning experience as it also involves their parents from time to time. I once taught my juniors a unit on the “History of the Corset” and most of my students reported that their mothers worked with them on the research and were able to contribute information they had learned form their mothers. This started a chain of information which was phenomenal. That was one of my best research classes. I just love seeing the wonder and incredulity that is displayed when we do this kind of research
I would say we are on the lower end of the technological revolution. Although we’ve wireless access, work stations in all rooms, intermittent video conferencing and a computer lab with the newer addition of a Smart Board, there is more we could offer. I’m not certain how my colleagues are making global connections in their classroom but knowing their work ethic I am sure connections are being made. They’ve much to consider with what time they have. The testing period being over will allow them to spend more time in this area.
My only tool is my laptop which I use constantly for music production but more recently, thanks to this wonderful instructional development program, I’ve turned my eye towards the internet spending more time looking for ways to bring my music classes into the global community. For example not long ago, due to the strong but subtle suggestion of Dr. Wang’s on the development of a digital story, I developed a digital story! In fact, I’ve been using it in the classroom and it’s great. The children have been so receptive I’m thinking of doing more. After they got by the “that sounds just like Mr. Scott” part, they really had a good time. Then we went to Cremona!
I have seen the use of the internet and computers in several different classrooms and there has been a significant difference in the implementation. Most of the classes had only one computer that the teacher would use for powerpoint presentations (using overhead projector)and taking attendance. Some classes had a small number of computers that the students were able to use at times during the class. Unfortunately, the students would generally use these computers for games or looking up materials not related to their class. Teachers have to be aware of the impact of the multimedia devices being used (including TV's, DVD or VCR) and be sure to utilize these tools and not overuse or rely too heavily on them. Motivating the students to properly use the computers and internet is generally not too hard a thing to accomplish as students have the inclination to use the computers anyway.
I am a teacher.I designed the different methods of technology in my classroom. It's very funny. My students can keep the attention and get a specil learnning experience. Using technology can be a whole learnning plan because teachers can calculate computer-integrated manufacturing.
I am a student, and a teacher, technology integration in classroom or school is more and more important because it can get information soon ,and make student more interesting ,therefore enhancing the efficinecy in using technology is the best way to elevating ourself .
I have this real love/hate relationship with technology. Some people might find it amazing that I am pursuing a masters in educational technology.
In my school you will be hard pressed to find a single individual using technology more extensively in the classroom than I am. I have a SmartBoard, digita projector, my own laptop cart, a bank of desktop computers, television, vcr, dvd player, over head projector, calculators, video iPods (a whole class set), video cameras, digita still cameras, among others.
Yet I still favor the magic of the pure lesson. The teacher presenting a task, a challenge to the students, and using an inquiry approach, unconvering the answers with the students. I put forth a very constructivist approach, and my attitude toward technology is that if it NATURALLY fits into the lesson, if it seemlessly helps me reach the objectives, then I use it. If not.... I have no use for it.
I feel strongly that the lesson should never be about the technology. It has to be about the students enduring understanding. I work backwards. What do I want the students to take away with them when this is all over? How am I going to know if they get it? What lessons help me get them there.... and oh, yes.... by the way... does technology help me get them there? How?
I have sat through countless lectures and read countless articles about how important technology is. I don't give much of an argument to the contrary. But the magic of education does NOT lie in technology. It lies in roll up the sleeves, put in the time, connect with you students, care about your students, and be the best teacher you can be.
If technology finds a way to support any of the above, then use it. If it does not, then you'd be better off using your precious time else where.
I am fortunate to have access to a wealth of technology in my school. I find that I am one of the few teachers who makes the most of it. In my class I have a small lab of 8 Mac computers.I have wireless access. I use a smartboard, document camera, video camera and digital camera. Last year my class had hand held computers as well. These tools are great motivators for the special needs students that I teach.I am very project oriented so I enjoy doing class projects that involve the children making movies. I usually make two movies with the children every year. The handhelds last year were used to create animations that the children enjoyed creating. The computers are used daily for the teaching of reading as well as tutoring them in skills they need help in. The students also enjoy using the digital cameras to take photos for the books that they put together. Since I am in a school that emphasizes the visual arts teachers are encouraged to use these tools.I have been instrumental in getting other teachers to use the equipment in the school.I hold workshops to show the teachers how to use the equipment and how they can implement them into their teaching.
There are many different technologies that are intigrated in my classroom. First is that all the classrooms in the school have atleast 2 computers 1 is used for techer and instructional purposes mainly taking attendence and other things that will be used. All the classrooms have Tv that are hooked up to the computer so you can display such as powerpoints and websites. There are also DVD players VCR's and if needed you can get overhead projectors which is turning into a dead technology also the school has 2 projectors that can be borrowed from the AV department if needed.
Technology is an integral part of my school curriculum. We have several smartboards which are fully utilized on a daily basis. These are used in conjunction with tablets that were given to every sixth and seventh grade student. These laptops are equipped with wireless technology. This makes it easy to connect to and use the internet. The school provides ongoing training for every teacher. The teachers show a lot of interest in the use of the technology. Also, at times, teachers use overhead projectors, DVD players and Television to enhance the presentation of the lessons. The students seem to be very enthusiatic whenever they are allowed to use the computers. The use of the technology seems to increase their attention span and from observation they seem to stay to the assigned task.
Well I am not a teacher either but just a few weeks ago at observation in shoreham wading river high school on long island i had one of the most interesting hands on lessons on the new Smart board system. One of the teachers just got it into his class and he let me play around with it a little bit. Those smart boards are the best invention for the classroom there are endless possibilities for the uses of the smart board. You can save notes and reveal them at certain points. There are interactive games. Any thing you can do on a computer you can do standing in the front of the classroom on the smart board. The kids loved the graphs and the moving figures and the teachers love how you can reference the internet at the touch of a button. Also you can save everything you did in the lesson and it will print it out for any students in a step by step matter. You can also pop up movies and the system is just incredible.
I believe there are several tools that technology is involved in education today. Computer itself is a powerful technological tool, and beside there is projectors, TVs with DVD, etc.
The fact is that as the technology gets more involved, the teachers could manage the class time more efficiently
As a future technology teacher I have observed my different technologies used in the class room.Computers, smartboards, overhead projectors, power point presentation set ups, T.V. dvd. stereo, video cameras, editing equipment, net op-teacher softwear, to name some.It is important that we realize the challenges students face in this ever growing global economy, and the new literacys they face in order to be competitive and make good decisions.Technology is always changing and it is imperative that we as teachers stay current and ahead of the curve to better educate our students.
Discuss the technology integration in your classroom/school
The technology integration in the school that I observed was sufficient for that size. The students visit a computer lab twice every week. they work with the technology teacher to gain knowledge on how to use the computer and truly become computer literate. The teachers in the classroom also use at least one computer to aid in teaching and preparing lessons. The class I observed had alaptop and a projector. The teacher used this to teach lessons exploring the use of the new multimedia literacies.
I am a Phys.Ed teacher and as a technophile I love tech and am very comfortable with every manner if digital technology. However, I do not use any technology in my teaching aside from a whistle.I do know that my school might be considered fairly well wired as public schools go. We have two(2) pc labs, 2 carts of pc laptops and one cart of mac laptops. Each classroom has at least two computers and a networked printer. there are also several banks of computer stations in the library. Each classroom also has a TV,DVD player and an overhead projector. Each floor also has a Smartboard for shared use. we have a closet of digital cameras to be used for projects and our library uses an electronic check out system the is tied into the bar codes on the id card of each of the children. I would say that we have a fair set up compared some of the other schools in my district and for that I'm happy.
