Let people know some one far away him on the google earth with some pictures. By using several pictures, students can imagine the place which be introduced.
In what ways were the Google Earth placemarks of online members similar? Different?
It's different.
From how many different countries did the people in this community originate?
About 6 countries.
What did you learn about your online community from their Google Earth palcemarks?
I can knew somewhere that I have never heard of it.
How did you feel as you shared your Google Earth placemarks?
I am glad that I can introduce myself to some people from other countries. I wish they want me to be there friend.
What educational potentials you think Google Earth have in the classroom?
I just answered this question on another blog. Google Earth has great educational value in the classroom! Students are able to quickly visit any point on earth. If you want to know about volcanoes simply highlight the appropriate box et voila! The different usages are endless. My second grade music class for example was absolutely fascinated with the program. It all started when we got on the topic of global warming (a teachable moment). Off to the computer we went and in no time flat, we were on the North Pole. The first thing we noticed was how small it was. “What would happen if” was the beginning of many of my questions hinting on the effects. Each was carefully considered and answered in great detail. A few were goofy, of course but many were right on the mark and they seemed to enjoy having what one called “a grown-up” conversation. In the beginning, the North Pole was a gigantic place where penguins, polar bear and prancing reindeer reigned but a quick visit to the South Pole changed all that. On cue they all widened their eyes, softly inhaled and released in unison the simplest of sounds… “Whoa!”
Needless to say, the remainder of the class we traveled the globe. It was fun, engaging and clearly evident. ICT’s belong in the classroom.
In what ways were the Google Earth placemarks of online members similar?
For me the placemark similarities were in my fascination to see where I was going next! I took the automated placemark-trip around the world, pausing when I wanted to see more of an area. Amazing how easily we can learn from each other. It also shows how we are all connected. Families originating there, ending up here and expanding elsewhere… Ten generations before any of us involve over 1000 people. Twenty generation before any of us, over a million. What a place!
Different?
The difference being what the author had to say of each.
From how many different countries did the people in this community originate?
If I understand the question correctly at least six but I thoroughly enjoyed visiting 16.
What did you learn about your online community from their Google Earth palcemarks? How did you feel as you shared your Google Earth placemarks?
I found it interesting reading my colleagues’ comments. There is always more to know of a place even if you’ve been there. Reading through other’s eyes is very rewarding. I felt (and feel) great sharing my placesmarks and comments with our global community of teachers. Seeing everyone’s marker on the globe as it spun lazily was really impressive. Nice meeting you all!!!!
What did you learn about your online community from their Google Earth palcemarks?
From my point of view, it is vital to me and I could understand the culture of places of online members fastly from google earth.
second, I could see the earth as a village which is under my fingers. I can easily check the place which I want to see from different way, such as bird view, plane view and 3D.
Third, I can build a compcact network connection of my friends in my mind, and I can search my friend's memorial places.
I'd like to answer the question 1.
I teach social studies in the elementary school, and map skill is an important part of my teaching. Google Earth can provide real-world information to my students, and let them engage in problem-solving challenges.
In my view, Google Earth open a new way of geography teaching.
What educational potentials you think Google Earth have in the classroom?
I think that Google Earth has a lot of great potential for students, for instance finding a place in any part of the world and being able to measure the distance in real time. The students can learn about the country/state from the images and comments of others and they are able to learn about the people who created placemarks by reading their information. I think that as a classroom tool this is a very good idea and more teachers should use it on a regular basis. I decided to include Google Earth into one of my lessons.
My 11th grade Fashion Design students are creating a newsletter to tell their clients about an upcoming fashion show that they are hosting in a country of their choice. They will include maps to different tourist attractions and any other information that they feel will entertain their guests.
In what ways were the Google Earth placemarks of online members similar? Different?
The users all add information and placemarks in different ways, but regardless of the differences they were still informational. By viewing the placemarks anyone can read a brief description about a particular place or country without looking it up. Another great for students
From how many different countries did the people in this community originate?
About 6
What did you learn about your online community from their Google Earth placemarks?
Through the eyes of the beholder is like magic because we are able to view old and new places in a different way. We have all traveled to different places and together we can say that we have seen the world.
How did you feel as you shared your Google Earth place marks?
Feels great to share my special places.
I have not had a chance to test Google Earth in the lab at my school. So far we have downloaded the software on 39 desktop stations and 50 laptops. My partner and I, we plan to use it for a unit on the Triangle Slave trade.
The placemarks were different because the members have different experiences.
The people on this online community originate from at least 8 different countries.
We always learn something new every second of our existence.
I would not have joined an online community on my own.First, I do not have time to do small talks. Second, the virtual friendship does not move me.Can I have an intelectual relationship with someone I can never see? Perhaps, it works fine for others.
I think this would be a very valuable tool, especially in global studies, geography and geology. For me, it unscored how small earth really is (as I 'flew' from one location to the next). Beyond that, it can give the student a better perspective of where cities, points of interest are located relative to each other, versus looking at a static globe or map.
I thought the placemarks were similar in that there was a sense of pride or ownership from each individual that their choice was special.
The number of countries I counted from the people who contributed was six.
One thing i learned, and was very impressed with, was there were a number of non-native English speakers who contributed, and how well they did in conveying interest and pride in the places they visited, went to school or were born.
Sharing the two places I visited that were interesting to me made me feel as if I was back there again. I hope that what I wrote might have some impact on one or more of the people who are involved in this to visit those places as well.
What educational potentials you think Google Earth have in the classroom?
Pupils can visit their own neighborhoods, those of their friends and relatives, their countries of origin, places they would like to visit, and the countries they are studying. This can lead to discussion and writing assignments, supplemented with pictures and relavent urls. These virtual journeys and visits are game like as you watch the earth turn and hone in on the desired location. When learning is fun, it can be more memorable and the learner is more motivated to do more work.
In what ways were the Google Earth placemarks of online members similar? Different?
Some of the placemarks had lengthly comments, others were brief and some were blank. Some placemarks seemed to identify a very specific area of a city and others marked and entire city or country. There were no placemarks in Africa or South America.
From how many different countries did the people in this community originate?
I think there were five.
What did you learn about your online community from their Google Earth palcemarks?
I was surprised to see the number of locations in Asia and that there were none in Africa or South America.
How did you feel as you shared your Google Earth placemarks?
I enjoyed seeing what others had done and reading their comments, and hoped my comments would be read.
Answr five questions:
1. The learners from Google Earth could expand their minds and fast receive any information from world.
2. It is similar to establish and share information from members on-line, but without surfing the web like Google Earth, information would not be transmitted fast and remotely.
3. Anyone wanting to participate in can be a member of Google Earth.
4. Understanding different cultures of various countries and making friends easy.
5. Feeling well to introduce my country to everyone.
One of the advantages of Google Earth is that we are able to show the rest of the world how we live and some of the things that make our homes different and at the same time very similar to other parts of the world. We are able to express our ideas about our home and possibly give others more familiarity. This familiarity may help to alleviate the prejudices that are created due to misconstrued or incorrectly reported information about the people who make up our nations.
What educational potentials you think Google Earth have in the classroom?
Google Earth has tremendous potential for enhancing and aiding instruction. Aside from the obvious application for teaching geography Google earth can be used when studying social studies to make clear borders and boundaries and how proximity or lack thereof to another nation affect many aspects of a country and it's society. and of course with sketch up architecture and design can be studied. Math can be covered in calculating distance and land mass etc. I don't think that there is a discipline that can't be helped by Google Earth.
In what ways were the Google Earth placemarks of online members similar? Different?
I was not able to download the .KMZ as it's no longer available from this site. however, having done Google Earth projects in the past I have observed that Google earth allows it's participants to express what's important to them. Place marks of participants can be from the point of view of where they are now or where they came from and even where they would like to go. People mark places on the maps that they actually been to or places that a historical figure real or fiction lived and traveled. It allows for all kinds of different expression.
From how many different countries did the people in this community originate?
Again, since I could not get the .KMZ I couldn't tell. however, from reading the other posts it seems that the correct answer is 6.
What did you learn about your online community from their Google Earth palcemarks?
Could not download the group project.
How did you feel as you shared your Google Earth placemarks?
I have posted Google Earth placemarks for both school and as a personal project for friends and family and creating the markers and attaching text and images and sometimes even links to video's about me and or my experience while viewing similar content created by others make me feel more connected to the people I am interacting with. The interface that zips around the globe when you click really makes me feel like I'm traveling there in some sort of space age machine. I understand that it's and obvious and almost contrived response and it would be the thing Google would WANT one to say, but I must confess that they have done a phenomenal job with this product because it is the honest to goodness truth about what I feel.
